It's a book that encourages readers to murder women for entertainment. The incentive is to commit sexual violence against women, then abuse or kill them to proceed or get 'god' points – and now Target are stocking it and promoting it for your Xmas stocking.

Claims that atheists are trying to ban Underwood's song "Something in the Water" are faulty on multiple levels. No atheists have complained about the song's content; and Underwood's remarks implying otherwise were made years prior to the track's release and in response to a completely unrelated question.

Jesus appears to be an effect, not a cause, of Christianity. Paul and the rest of the first generation of Christians searched the Septuagint translation of Hebrew scriptures to create a Mystery Faith for the Jews, complete with pagan rituals like a Lord’s Supper, Gnostic terms in his letters, and a personal savior god to rival those in their neighbors’ longstanding Egyptian, Persian, Hellenistic and Roman traditions.

SEX shame cardinal Keith O’Brien is enjoying a quiet retirement in a comfortable home provided by the Catholic Church.

It had been believed O’Brien was doing penance at a monastery in England after admitting he had “fallen beneath the standards” expected of him.

But the UK’s former senior Catholic is staying in a £208,750 bungalow – bought by Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh Leo Cushley – in a Northumberland village.

While it is easy to point an accusing finger at the Catholic Church for decades of covered up child abuse, it appears to be far too easy to ignore the fact that the problem of coercive sex crimes are just as, if not more prevalent among Protestant churches in America today. Of course, we don’t hear about them in the national news because they aren’t inter-connected to a massive worldwide organization like the Vatican. However, isn’t the scariest part that these crimes go on right in front of our nose while nobody really talks about it simply because Protestant pastors don’t wear “funny robes”? Much like their Catholic counterparts, Protestant pastors and ministers are trusted with children who have been taught to obey the authority of their church leaders.

During World War I, which began on July 28, 1914, Germany saw itself as a religious force on a "messianic mission," while Russia saw itself not just as "a" Christian state, but as "the" Christian state, Jenkins said in a recent interview with Interfaith Voices, a public radio religion news magazine. Jenkins is the author of "The Great and Holy War: How World War I Became a Religious Crusade."

Those seeing the war as a religious crusade were "not just elite thinkers or a few crazy bishops and pastors . . . Religion dominated propaganda messages and the way people thought about the war, wrote about the war, made films about the war," Jenkins said. "Religion was part of the air they breathed . . . The enemy was an evil satanic foe."

He noted that angels and the Virgin Mary were reported as appearing regularly on battlefields, and the apocalypse was on the minds of many during the war, in which more than 9 million soldiers were killed.

"If you don't see this, and if you don't treat it seriously the way people of the time did, you're not going to get a sense of what people really were fighting about" and why they stayed in a "long, horrendous war" that initially was expected to last only a few months, Jenkins said in the interview.

Matthew 10:34-39

21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

34 “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to ‘set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.’

36 And ‘a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.’

37 He that loveth father or mother more than Me, is not worthy of Me. And he that loveth son or daughter more than Me, is not worthy of Me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.

39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for My sake, shall find it.

Love and peace in the Bible.

The Holy See’s response to the criticisms has been pathetic. It said that it had no jurisdiction over its priests in countries around the world, and that its ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Child applied only to the Vatican City itself. The disingenuousness of this reply beggars belief. As the Vatican can have no children within its territory, given its entire population consists, in principle at least, of celibate men, one has to wonder why it signed the Convention at all. And of course, the Holy See is happy to presume moral and spiritual jurisdiction over sovereign nations when it suits it to do so, as when condemning abortion, contraception or homosexuality.

The United Nations is to be congratulated on making clear this flagrant double standard employed by the Vatican to defend the indefensible.

Officials at Charlotte Catholic High School in North Carolina apologized to parents and students on Wednesday following a guest speaker’s remarks condemning homosexuality at a school assembly, WSOC-TV reported.

“The statement she basically made was that homosexuality was something developed from lack of masculinity or a lack of father figures in one life,” one student told WSOC regarding the speech from Sister Jane Dominic Laurel, an assistant professor of theology at Aquinas College in Nashville, Tennessee.

This girl is not feminine enough for Timberlake Christian School.

An 8-year-old Virginia girl has been taken out of her school after administrators complained she was acting too much like a boy.

WSET-TV reports that the grandparents of Sunnie Kahle received a letter from officials at Timberlake Christian School notifying them that their granddaughter would be refused enrollment next year if she didn't follow the school's "biblical standards" and change her appearance.

The letter reads in part, "We believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education."

The Secret Book of John ( Apocryphon of John ) [1] is a 2nd-century AD Sethian Gnostic Christian text of secret teachings. Since it was known to the church father Irenaeus, it must have been written before around AD 180. It describes Jesus Christ appearing and giving secret knowledge (gnosis) to the apostle John. The author describes this having occurred after Jesus "has gone back to the place from which he came". This book is reputed to bear this revelation.

Perhaps Jesus turned a little too much water into wine and got a little violent, as the 2000-year-old man-deity is being held responsible by a Tennessee woman for the drowning of her seven-month-old baby. Sort of! After being arrested for drowning her infant daughter during bath time, Stefany Paige Johnson claimed that Jesus came down and took the baby to heaven. Mr. Christ could not be reached for comment and neither he nor his attorneys have responded as of yet to the kidnapping charges.

Two experts from Tel Aviv University's Department of Archaeology and Near Easter Cultures, Dr Erex Ben-Yosef and Dr Lidar Sapir-Hen used radiocarbon dating to pinpoint the moment when domesticated camels first appeared in the southern Levant and found the date fell in the 9th century BC, not the 12th as previously thought. The finds further highlight the discrepancy between Biblical texts and verifiable history and undermines claims that the Bible is a faithful account of actual events.

Joshua Black, a candidate for state representative, voiced his agreement that "it's time to arrest and hang him high," then went on to state, "This would be exactly what the President has done to others, and, as Jesus said, 'the measure ye mete, it shall be meted to you again.'"

Black's rhetoric is unusually outrageous, but it's just the latest example in a pattern of conservative Republicans exploiting Christianity to advance a hateful agenda and vilify President Obama.

A few Republicans in Florida have begun to criticize Joshua Black's comments, but if the Republican Party is serious about putting an end to this kind of offensive rhetoric, they need to publicly denounce Black's candidacy and assure voters that he won't receive any support from the party.
