messianic Zionism recalls Nazi ideology:

Too many Israelis seem to believe they have a God-given right to occupy, suppress, disenfranchise and displace non-Jews—particularly Arabs—in Israel. That right seems to be implied in Prime Minister Netanyahu’s insistence that Palestinians affirm the State of Israel as the historic homeland of the Jewish people…

That belief may also account for the fact that adherents to a Jewish religious tradition that stresses the sanctity of human life and man’s creation in the image of the divine react so callously to the destruction of innocents, as Israelis have, 80 to 90 percent of whom have approved Israel’s incineration of so many of Gaza’s non-combatant population. It seems not to have occurred to them that this sense of special entitlement that characterizes their behavior resonates an ideology that led to the Holocaust even as they invoke the memory of the Holocaust in justification of measures they say are intended to prevent its recurrence.

Of all democracies in the world, Israel is probably the only one in which a member of its parliament, Ayelet Shaked, who publicly advocates genocide of the residents of Gaza, has not been expelled from her political party, Habayit Hayehudi, or from Israel’s parliament…

The single most overwhelming item of evidence of Israel’s rejection of peace is, of course, the settlements project. From the dawn of its existence, there has never been a more reliable or more precise litmus test for Israel’s true intentions than this particular enterprise. In plain words: The builders of settlements want to consolidate the occupation, and those who want to consolidate the occupation do not want peace. That’s the whole story in a nutshell.

In the Jewish state, there is no remnant of the biblical injunction to treat the minority or the stranger with justice. There are no more Jews left who marched with Martin Luther King or who sat in jail with Nelson Mandela. The Jewish state, which Israel insists the Palestinians recognize, must first recognize itself. At the end of the day, at the end of a terrible week, it seems that a Jewish state means a racist, nationalistic state, meant for Jews only.

Raw video: ASU professor arrested after struggle with police

An Arizona State University professor arrested by campus police last month is now accusing the officer of excessive force, and the incident is getting a whole lot more attention now that 3TV has obtained video of it. view full article

Clearly, the footage is painting a very different picture of the situation than what was largely reported and considered a closed case by ASU, the ASU PD, and media.

Joshua Black, a candidate for state representative, voiced his agreement that "it's time to arrest and hang him high," then went on to state, "This would be exactly what the President has done to others, and, as Jesus said, 'the measure ye mete, it shall be meted to you again.'"

Black's rhetoric is unusually outrageous, but it's just the latest example in a pattern of conservative Republicans exploiting Christianity to advance a hateful agenda and vilify President Obama.

A few Republicans in Florida have begun to criticize Joshua Black's comments, but if the Republican Party is serious about putting an end to this kind of offensive rhetoric, they need to publicly denounce Black's candidacy and assure voters that he won't receive any support from the party.

A meta-analysis of 55 independent studies carried out in the United States with more than 20,000 mostly Christian participants has found that members of religious congregations tend to harbor prejudiced views of other races.

In general, the more devout the community, the greater the racism, according to the authors of the analysis, led by Wendy Wood, Provost Professor of Psychology and Business at USC College and the USC Marshall School of Business. The study appears in the February [2010] issue of Personality and Social Psychology Review.

“Religious groups distinguish between believers and non-believers and moral people and immoral ones,” Wood said. “So perhaps it’s no surprise that the strongly religious people in our research, who were mostly white Christians, discriminated against others who were different from them — blacks and minorities.”

Most of the studies reviewed by Wood’s team focused on Christians because Christianity is the most common religion in the United States.

Her analysis found significantly less racism among people without strong religious beliefs.

Ethiopian Jews are challenged daily by white Israelis for not being “real” Jews. About a year ago a national television station in Israel broadcasted a story of an Ethiopian family that sparked protests across the country among Ethiopian Jews living in Israel. The story took place in the southern city of Kiryat Malachi where a family with an Ethiopian background struggled to buy an apartment and soon discovered that many tenants in the city have signed agreements not to sell or rent properties to Ethiopians (3).  The WikiLeaks cable adds that 50% of Ethiopian parents in Israel are not equipped to support their children stay in school. As a result, according to the cable, in 2009 roughly 26% of the children dropped out of school at early ages.

Between the ages of 14 and 17 the youth, a college student, says he has faced a series of charges of which he has either been found not guilty, or which have been dropped before getting to court, as well as numerous stops and searches and two strip searches, none of which identified any criminal activity. He says he has also been detained several times in police cells after which he was released without charge.

Last week the teenager appeared at Bromley youth court, south London, charged with assaulting a police officer. The case collapsed after CCTV footage contradicted the evidence in court of PC John Lovegrove, who claimed to have been assaulted by the youth during a stop and search.

Racism is still alive in Mississippi and a Baptist church is at the center of the controversy.

Charles and Te’Andrea Wilson planned to get married at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, a church they attend regularly (but aren’t members of), but at the last second, the church members said they couldn’t hold the ceremony in their building.

Why not?

They’re black.

Several weeks back, Israel was rocked by a night of right-wing race-riots targeting African refugees in Tel Aviv. The thuggery was frightening – refugees were attacked, African-owned businesses and stores were vandalized and a community was forced to hunker down behind closed doors in fear for their lives.

"It started there, with the refugees," Bayu says. "And nobody responded. And then it was, 'Let's expand that' and [the rabbis] came up with [the edict against] the Arabs."

So if there is not a strong response to what is happening in south Tel Aviv now, Bayu says: "It's obvious that [things] can go to another level. This is what happened in Germany and many other places."

When asked if he hopes that the government will step in and help prevent an escalation, Bayu answers: "They're the ones who started it."

He points towards the remarks of Eli Yishai, the interior minister, that migrants bring "a profusion" of diseases and drugs to Israel - claims that fly in the face of ministry of health data proving that migrants have low rates of illness.

Other government employees, including a Tel Aviv city council member, have blamed foreigners for increasing crime even though a recent Knesset report proves that asylum seekers are actually much less likely to be involved in criminal activities than Israelis.

And both migrant workers and asylum seekers were targeted by a government campaign of advertisements depicting "real Israelis" (read: paid actors) who did not have work because of "foreigners".

"First, they [the government] try to create this fear among the public, to create this discrimination, and then the result is always violence," Bayu says. "That's my biggest fear."
