It is time to hold Israel accountable, not only for its most recent attack on Gaza, but for its ongoing blockade, military occupation, and dispossession of the Palestinian people.

Sign this petition to President Obama demanding accountability and justice.

Americans are still suffering from one of the worst recessions in history, yet wages have flatlined. The time has come to raise the minimum wage in our community.

PepsiCo is a major  Conflict Palm Oil laggard, dragging its feet, refusing to admit it even has a problem. With a whopping 457,200 metric tons of palm oil used annually in snacks like Cheetos and Lay's potato chips, PepsiCo has a huge impact on the planet, the forests, and the people and animals which call them home.

Send your message here: Tell PepsiCo you won't have deforestation, extinction, or slavery in your home.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will decide this Summer at its biennial General Assembly in Detroit (June 14-21, 2014) whether or not to stop investing in Caterpillar, Motorola Solutions, and Hewlett-Packard–3 companies that profit from the Israeli occupation. This proposal comes from the grassroots of the church as well as having been recommended by the church’s Mission Responsibility Through Investment Committee, the body of the church that implements the socially-responsible investment policies of the church.

We represent religious leaders, lay people and clergy from different faith-rooted traditions who support the Presbyterian Church in its quest to align its prophetic principles with actions that support the end of Israeli Occupation. We endorse the overtures that support boycott and divestment.

We share a belief in the central teachings of our respective religious traditions that mandate proactive nonviolent responses to systematic harming of fellow human beings. No human being is outside the circle of our concern. We fully support religious institutions that divest from corporations that profit from the construction of illegal Israeli settlements and barriers on Palestinian land in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. A religious community that proclaims justice and peace as its primary mission cannot accept funds from corporations that help maintain the vast system of repression used to occupy Palestinian land and harm Palestinian society.

To U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder: It is time that you do something about the Cardinals and Bishops who knowingly moved known pedophile priests from parish to parish, state to state and hid these rapists of children to avoid prosecution for the m. There is ample evidence that Cardinals Timothy Dolan, Roger Mahony, Bernard Law and others covered up these rapes of children by their priests. It is time to show these people simply because they are of a religious organization, they are not above the laws of the United States. They have committed numerous crimes against the Federal statues and it is you duty as U.S. Attorney General to do something about this.

Tens of thousands of people have used the White House's petition site to demand that President Obama fire Aaron Swartz's prosecutor Carmen Ortiz -- easily surpassing the 25,000 signature threshold that's supposed to guarantee a response. Aaron died more than two weeks ago, but the White House still hasn't even issued a statement.

We've been waiting far too long. Help us demand answers from the White House.  It's enough already: They need to respond to our calls and fire Ortiz.

Flash proxies are a new way of providing access to a censorship circumvention system such as Tor. A  is a miniature proxy that runs in a web browser. It checks for clients that need access, then conveys data between them and a Tor relay.

Tor has bridge relays, but in some cases even these can be blocked despite the fact that their addresses are handed out only a few at a time. The purpose of this project is to create many, generally ephemeral bridge IP addresses, with the goal of outpacing a censor's ability to block them. Rather than increasing the number of bridges at static addresses, we aim to make existing bridges reachable by a larger and changing pool of addresses.

"Flash proxy" is a name that should make you think "quick" and "short-lived." Our implementation uses standard web technologies: JavaScript and WebSocket. (In the long-ago past we used Adobe Flash, but do not any longer.)

If your browser runs JavaScript and has support for WebSockets then while you are viewing this page your browser is a potential proxy available to help censored Internet users.

On Friday, Internet pioneer and open information activist Aaron Swartz took his own life at the age of 26. At the time of his death, Swartz was under indictment for logging into JSTOR, a database of scholarly articles, and rapidly downloading those articles with the intent to make them public. If Swartz had lived to be convicted of the charges against him, he faced 50 years or more in a federal prison.

To put these charges in perspective, here are ten examples of federal crimes that carry lesser prison sentences than Swartz’ alleged crime of downloading academic articles in an effort to make knowledge widely available to the public:

Inna Shevchenko, a 22 year-old leader of the Ukrainian organization, survived 24-hours of torture by the KGB, in Belarus. On December 19, 2011, KGB agents kidnapped Shevchenko and two other Femen members in Minsk, for protesting the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, known as “Europe’s Last Dictator.” The six agents drove the women blindfolded into a snow-covered forest, stripped them naked, doused them in oil, and threatened to burn them alive if they didn’t complete humiliating drills. The agents chopped off the women’s hair with knives, threatened rape, and videotaped them, presumably for Lukashenko. One agent allegedly said for the camera, "Look at those bitches that were traveling all over the world, protesting, look at them now.”

The gun lobby’s extremist political agenda has held America’s political system hostage for too long. The NRA and the National Shooting Sports Foundation have opposed even the most non-controversial reforms such as funding the confiscation of illegal guns from criminals and the mentally ill, and eliminating poisonous lead from bullets.

Take a stand against NRA extremism and for common-sense reforms by endorsing the two petitions below.

30 km/h (20 mph) limits are an inexpensive and popular way to improve safety, cut pollution and encourage smarter travel choices. They lead to improved traffic flow and less congestion. People can move without fear.

In his annual Christmas address to the College of Cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI, the global leader of the Roman Catholic Church, demeaned and belittled homosexual people around the world. Using hateful language and discriminatory remarks, the Pope painted a portrait in which gay people are second-class global citizens. Pope Benedict said that gay people starting families are threatening to society, and that gay parents objectify and take away the dignity of children. The Pope also implied that gay families are sub-human, as they are not dignified in the eyes of God.

Upon these remarks, the Roman Catholic Church fits the definition of a hate group as defined by both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League.
