The chief executive of Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox web browser, has refused to rule out donating more money to anti-equal marriage campaigners.

“I don’t want to do hypotheticals,” Brendan Eich said. “I haven’t thought about that issue and I really don’t want to speculate because it’s not relevant.”

Officials at Charlotte Catholic High School in North Carolina apologized to parents and students on Wednesday following a guest speaker’s remarks condemning homosexuality at a school assembly, WSOC-TV reported.

“The statement she basically made was that homosexuality was something developed from lack of masculinity or a lack of father figures in one life,” one student told WSOC regarding the speech from Sister Jane Dominic Laurel, an assistant professor of theology at Aquinas College in Nashville, Tennessee.

But Cardinal Bergoglio is also a conventional choice, a theological conservative of Italian ancestry who vigorously backs Vatican positions on abortion, gay marriage, the ordination of women and other major issues — leading to heated clashes with Argentina’s left-leaning president.

He was less energetic, however, when it came to standing up to Argentina’s military dictatorship during the 1970s as the country was consumed by a conflict between right and left that became known as the Dirty War. He has been accused of knowing about abuses and failing to do enough to stop them, during a period when as many as 30,000 people were abducted, tortured or killed by the dictatorship.

Peter Turkson of Ghana. He was appointed by Benedict in 2009 to serve as president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, and (surprise!) he's incredibly anti-gay.

How anti-gay, you ask? Believe it or not, Turkson is so anti-gay that he actually defended draconian laws that criminalize homosexuality and gay sex, including Uganda's notorious "Kill the Gays" bill. Speaking last year to the National Catholic Register, Turkson opined that while the penalties imposed by such laws are "exaggerated," the desire of many Africans and African leaders to incarcerate or even execute their gay citizens is actually perfectly understandable, and that the "intensity of the reaction [to homosexuality] is probably commensurate with tradition."

Translation: demonizing and persecuting gay people shouldn't be condemned. Rather, it should be understood because in many nations, it's traditional.

Turkson's comments get even worse from there. Pick your jaw up off the floor and meet me after the jump.

Asked why homosexuality remains so stigmatized in Africa, Turkson reiterated his call for understanding -- and this time, he had the gall to frame it in terms of respect and fairness, as though the right of LGBT people to merely exist and the "cultural values" of those who wish to slaughter them deserve equal consideration and deference:

Just as there's a sense of a call for rights, there's also a call to respect culture, of all kinds of people. So, if it's being stigmatized, in fairness, it's probably right to find out why it is being stigmatized.

In January 2012, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon delivered an address to the African Union Summit in which he called on African nations to repeal laws that criminalize homosexuality and end discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity; the Secretary-General said that doing so was the only way to live up to the ideals of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. Cardinal Turkson rebuked him:

We [the Church] push for the rights of prisoners, the rights of others, and the last thing we want to do is infringe upon the rights of anyone. But when you're talking about what's called 'an alternative lifestyle,' are those human rights? [Ban Ki-moon] needs to recognize there's a subtle distinction between morality and human rights, and that's what needs to be clarified.

Kevin Swanson of Generations Radio has a dark view of what will come if Colorado passes a bill allowing civil unions for same-sex couples. As soon as 2022, Swanson warns, the government will snatch kids from homeschooling families and deliver them to members of the North American Man/Boy Love Association, a tiny fringe group that looms large in the nightmares of the anti-gay movement. He cites the discredited Regnerus study, which drew conclusions about LGBT parenting without actually studying  LGBT parents.

just around the same time the pope was drafting his first tweet, he met with Ugandan parliamentary speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who had earlier promised to level the death penalty for gays as a "Christmas present" to the Ugandan people (minus, one assumes, the Ugandans who will be murdered because of their sexual orientation). She received a private audience with the pope, and a blessing.

He couldn't just say something nice about world peace? Or sing his favorite Christmas carol? He had to take this moment to go out of his way explaining why the Catholic Church still hates gay people and you should too. So much for the holiday spirit and goodwill toward men, yadda yadda.

The church is a petrified oligarchy, a dictatorship like the medieval monarchies it once existed alongside, and it's run by a small circle of conservative, rigidly ideological old men who make all the decisions and choose their own successors.

This means that, whatever individual Catholics may do, the resources of the church as an institution are bent toward opposing social progress and positive change all over the world.

A NEW Hampshire lawyer who listed the Bible on Facebook as her favourite book, and was associated with the Alliance Defending Freedom, an anti-gay pressure group, is facing ten years to life in prison for allegedly possessing child pornography, and transporting a teenage girl to Canada for sexual purposes.

The Alliance Defending Freedom (formerly the Alliance Defense Fund) is a group which, ironically, works very hard to limit the freedom of gay people by preventing them from marrying.  It was founded by some of Christianity’s most infamous leaders like Bill Bright (founder of Campus Crusade for Christ) and James Dobson.

I hope they weren’t taking their hiring cues from the almighty, because one of their lawyers just got caught being very, very bad.

A Manchester lawyer took a teenage girl to Canada, had her engage in sexual activity and convinced her to let it be filmed, according to federal indictments.

FBI agents swiftly arrested Lisa Biron yesterday morning as she awaited a hearing on child pornography charges at Manchester’s district court. About 9 a.m. FBI agents entered the courtroom, told Biron to leave her belongings and took her into an adjoining conference room where she remained for several minutes before coming out in handcuffs.
