"Tell the chef, the beer is on me."
WGBH produces more than two-thirds of the nationally distributed programs broadcast by PBS, including Masterpiece, NOVA, and Frontline. An anti-science propagandist like David Koch should not have any role overseeing NOVA, or any other WGBH programming.
Until recently, David Koch also sat on the Board of WNET, New York City’s PBS affiliate. While he was on the Board, WNET aired "Park Avenue," a film focused on the money, power, and inequality associated with New York's wealthiest residents, which included David Koch. In an unheard of concession to its Board member, Koch was offered an opportunity to write a statement rebutting the program that aired immediately after the broadcast. Not only that, the agency of public television that curated "Park Avenue," ITVS, pulled its funding from another film "Citizen Koch," apparently due to concerns that it would upset WNET and David Koch.
This clear example of how Koch’s oversight can lead to journalistic self-censorship shows that he does not belong on the WGBH board. Sign the petition and keep up the fight to hold the Koch Brothers accountable:
"Remove David Koch from WGBH’s board of trustees and ensure that public broadcasting remains independent from the influence of radical climate change denial and right-wing attacks on education."
“— Top US companies shelling out to block action on climate change | Environment | guardian.co.ukSome of America's top companies are spending heavily to block action on climate change or discredit climate science, despite public commitments to sustainable and green values, a new report has found.
An analysis of 28 Standard & Poor 500 publicly traded companies by researchers from the Union of Concerned Scientists exposed a sharp disconnect in some cases between PR message and less visible activities, with companies quietly lobbying against climate policy or funding groups which work to discredit climate science.
”
A review has cleared the scientist Peter Gleick of forging any documents in his expose of the rightwing Heartland Institute's strategy and finances, the Guardian has learned.
Gleick's sting on Heartland brought unwelcome scrutiny to the organisation's efforts to block action on climate change, and prompted a walk-out of corporate donors that has created uncertainty about its financial future.
This just in from the Heartland Institute: If you accept the conclusions of the overwhelming majority of climate experts and agree that the earth is warming, you are a mass murderer.
So, obviously, everyone should eat meat, because Hitler was a vegetarian. Nobody should go to church, because Timothy McVeigh was Catholic.
The press release is a non-stop firehose of misinformation and spin, but among the venom-dripping things they say, one bit of crazy stands out:
The people who still believe in man-made global warming are mostly on the radical fringe of society. This is why the most prominent advocates of global warming aren’t scientists. They are murderers, tyrants, and madmen.
I urge the AMS Council to immediately pass a new information statement that reflects the widespread scientific consensus that climate change is increasingly impacting our planet, and then vigorously promote that statement to AMS members.
