Igarashi, who worked under the alias Rokudenashiko, which means "good-for-nothing girl", built a yellow kayak with a top shaped like her vagina after raising about $10,000 (£5,800) through crowdfunding.

Igarashi sent 3D printer data of her scanned vagina – the digital basis for her kayak project – as a thanks to a number of donors.

On Saturday, she was arrested for distributing indecent material and faces up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000 (£15,000).

NEW DELHI — Islamic courts have no legal authority in India, the country’s Supreme Court ruled Monday, saying Muslims cannot be legally subject to a parallel religious authority.

Individuals may abide by Shariah court rulings if they wish, but cannot be legally forced to do so, Judge C. K. Prasad said.

“No religion is allowed to curb anyone’s fundamental rights,” he told the court, giving the decision of a two-judge bench. Indian law does not recognize Shariah court rulings, he said.

To U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder: It is time that you do something about the Cardinals and Bishops who knowingly moved known pedophile priests from parish to parish, state to state and hid these rapists of children to avoid prosecution for the m. There is ample evidence that Cardinals Timothy Dolan, Roger Mahony, Bernard Law and others covered up these rapes of children by their priests. It is time to show these people simply because they are of a religious organization, they are not above the laws of the United States. They have committed numerous crimes against the Federal statues and it is you duty as U.S. Attorney General to do something about this.

Dubai is being promoted as a luxury high-class paradise in the desert, but the reality is brutally different, as Australian Alicia Gali discovered. Gali took a job in the UAE with one of the world’s biggest hotel chains, Starwood. What happened next makes this story a must-watch for every Australian planning on travelling through the region.

Gali was using her laptop in the hotel’s staff bar when her drink was spiked. She awoke to a nightmare beyond belief: she had been savagely raped by three of her colleagues. Alone and frightened, she took herself to hospital. What Alicia didn’t know is that under the UAE’s strict sharia laws, if the perpetrator does not confess, a rape cannot be convicted without four adult Muslim male witnesses. She was charged with having illicit sex outside marriage, and thrown in a filthy jail cell for eight months.

Why this is important

The Arbitration and Mediation Services (Equality) Bill introduced into the House of Lords by Baroness Caroline Cox in 2011 aims to tackle the discrimination faced by Muslim women within the Sharia court system. The Bill, which applies to all arbitration tribunals, will firmly outlaw the practice of giving women's testimony half the weight of men's. The Bill's proposals include: * a new criminal offence of 'falsely claiming legal jurisdiction' for any person who adjudicates upon matters which ought to be decided by criminal or family courts. * Explicitly stating in legislation that sex discrimination law applies directly to arbitration tribunal proceedings. Discriminatory rulings may be struck down under the Bill. * Requiring public bodies to inform women that they have fewer legal rights if their marriage is unrecognised by English law. * Explicitly stating on the face of legislation that arbitration tribunals may not deal with matters of family law (such as legally recognised divorce or custody of children) or criminal law (such as domestic violence). * Making it easier for a civil court to set aside a consent order if a mediation settlement agreement or other agreement was reached under duress. * Explicitly stating on the face of legislation that a victim of domestic abuse is a witness to an offence and therefore should be expressly protected from witness intimidation.

Subject: Oppose CISPA

Last year, CISPA threatened to severely undermine existing privacy law by creating exemptions for companies who wanted to share sensitive user information with the government--including intelligence agencies like the NSA.

We must not sacrifice our fundamental civil liberties and rights to privacy in exchange for a misguided notion of 'cybersecurity.'

Tens of thousands of people have used the White House's petition site to demand that President Obama fire Aaron Swartz's prosecutor Carmen Ortiz -- easily surpassing the 25,000 signature threshold that's supposed to guarantee a response. Aaron died more than two weeks ago, but the White House still hasn't even issued a statement.

We've been waiting far too long. Help us demand answers from the White House.  It's enough already: They need to respond to our calls and fire Ortiz.
